Mount Kittatinny and Mount Minci via Appalachian Trail
Last Saturday, we went to Mount Kittatinny and Mount Minci via the Appalachian Trail. Overall it is a decent hike for about 10 miles round trip. The best time to secure a parking spot is a little early around, 8 or 9 AM, though a lot of people park by the roadside. You should pack lunch and some snacks if you have kids hiking with you. The entrance for the Appalachian Trail (AT) towards Mount Minci is a little hidden, but it’s right across the road in front of the Wolf Rocks Trail. Right after walking on a bumpy, wavy trail going through the forest for about a mile, you can see yourself standing on the edge of beautiful Mount Kittatinny. You can stop here for your snacks. Sometimes you can see a few campers camping here putting campfire and enjoying themselves.
If you keep moving ahead back into the forest on the same Appalachian Trail, you will be going toward Mount Minci. After going about another mile, you have to choose from two ways. One is the Appalachian Trail going through the forest and, the other is the jeep track. One should try both. We took the Appalachian Trail through the trees towards Mount Minci and took the jeep track while coming back. Believe me. A jeep track is much easier to walk on. The Jeep track looks very beautiful, with trees of different colors on both sides making an arch. The ground makes a carpet of colorful fall leaves. After walking for another 2.5 miles, you will reach your destination Mount Minci. There are a few overlook spots there, which gives a beautiful view of the Delaware Water Gap. One can see both sides of the river with New Jersey on one side and Pennsylvania on the other. You can stop here and have your lunch. Don’t forget to take lunch because you still need lots of energy to cover 5 miles back to your car. Always be mindful of deer ticks. Always spray yourself with insect repellent before starting your hike. Overall it was a good trip with lots of fun and enjoyment on the way. When you are near nature, you can get ample time to think about lots of stuff going on in our lives and make better decisions. Secondly, it helps to increase spirituality. Thirdly, it elevates all types of anxiety and depression. All in all, hiking trips are exciting and amusing.
